MU – Season 1
The Coat Woman
MU goes beyond a production and is a concept of artistic encounters. With this project, Marinette Dozeville wants artistic direction always to be in collaboration with an artist associated with creative work. The collaboration will be the basis for opening up a range of possibilities, extending one’s realm and writing technique to new horizons whilst respecting one’s author’s identity, and relying on other domains to bring out choreography. In this way, a “mue” (in French) or a metamorphosis = an artistic collaboration (MU #1 with David Girondin Moab, MU #2 with Do Brunet), and MU varies with each of its seasons.
MU – Season 1 / The Coat Woman
MU, a forgotten creature, plunges us into the disturbing mystery of the ritual… This coat woman, born before our eyes, returns to the oddness of her oblivion leaving us with the fascinating memory of having witnessed a form of magical resurrection.
Bundled up in her imposing fur coat, MU becomes a veritable body-material manipulated and manipulable by her various peregrinations and experimentations inside this coat. She is irritated by its weight, size and movement but is dependent on everything this object evokes… Is it the object which is incarnated, or the dancer who materialises?
The musical choice, a sound composition based on Igor Stravinsky’s Three Japanese Lyrics, conveys a Japanese-inspired world which matches the character’s stylisation. In it, the female voice comes in and modulates like veritable sonic material. Likewise, MU, human material, seeks to sculpt and model herself in her coat-body. Repeated in an almost obsessional way, the music reflects MU’s state of enquiry and wandering within her experimentations and rites of passage.
