Une chambre à Nous

Une chambre à Nous echoes Virginia Woolf’s book A Room of One’s Own, which made feminist history by questioning how the conditioning of women prevented them from writing and, more broadly, from accessing artistic practices. “Why was Hamlet not written by a woman?” To this question, falsely naive and truly provocative in 1929, Woolf replied: “Because a woman would not have had ‘a room of her own’ in which to write.” What kind of space is this? A physical space in the workroom where she can isolate herself; a temporal space where women are freed from domestic tasks; a mental space where they are free to think; and also a space of economic freedom that allows them to support themselves.

A space and time for Us
In line with this observation, the aim and utopia of the Une chambre à Nous project will be to provide, through artistic workshops, a space and time dedicated to the Self and to the plural feminine Us. To allow time for the woman, the women that we are, to find and cultivate together a space of collective kindness. Together, we will create a room for Us that is a space for multiple forms of listening: listening to our bodies, our personalities, our energies, our life journeys, our perspectives, and our ears tuned to the world.
Une chambre à Nous as a space for multiple forms of expression: through dance, music, personal or collective storytelling.
A room for us to activate together so that everyone feels at home there. To draw on the joyful power of the collective and the vitality of the collective body, to find space to welcome our individuality and personal journeys.

Une chambre à Nous is a project aimed at groups of women in extremely vulnerable situations, in this case a group of women from the Croix Rouge neighborhood in Reims.
